Hospice
Marian Hospice is designed to provide support, compassion, and care for people in the final phase of a terminal illness, allowing them to live as fully and as comfortably as possible. Under the guidance of a medical director, an interdisciplinary staff is trained to understand and attend to the special needs of dying patients and their loved ones. Hospice care, sensitive to the emotional and spiritual needs of individual patients, is centered on both the patient and family. Hospice focuses on caring, not curing, but we do not take away hope. A patient may improve or stabilize to a point where Hospice care is no longer needed. Hospice also provides bereavement services for a full year after a loss. Our trained bereavement team provides support by phone calls and mailings to help families cope with the loss of their loved one. A highly skilled team of health care professionals provides a continuity of care.
The Hospice interdisciplinary team includes:
-
A Hospice nurse who, together with the patient's personal physician, is responsible for overall patient care.
-
Home Health Aides who assist with personal care such as bathing, grooming and exercise.
-
Medical Social Workers who provide emotional, psychological support and counseling for patient and family members. They also assist with funeral arrangements and follow-up bereavement calls and visits.
-
Homemakers who provide light housekeeping services and occasional respite for primary caregivers.
-
Spiritual advisors who are available for spiritual support.
-
A Dietitian can assist the patient with nutritional recommendations.
-
Trained volunteers who accompany patients for short periods of time, so caregivers can get rest or do errands.
